COLLIER COUNTY, Fla- New construction is popping up everyday in Naples. Michael Meinert is a field operations manager for BCB Homes, a Naples company that is busy building area properties.

"If someone wants to build a house down here, they have to buy one in a lot with the house on it," said Meinert.

Shelling out millions of dollars for the home of their dreams. Tearing down the old one, then starting from the ground up.

"Many of those older homes that are built in the 70's, some in the 60's, according to the standards that they're looking for," said Nancy Macdonald.

Macdonald, with Coldwell Banker on 5th Avenue, said it's a growing trend in southwest Florida, especially in prime locations by the water.

"In many desirable areas, no matter where you are in the country, you will see this phenomenon because attractive pieces of land are always built first," said Macdonald.

As properties continue to age, she said this trend will only continue.

"As we move into the 21st century, our housing is becoming older so now you will see tear downs where before the houses were appropriate and worked for everybody's lifestyle."
