PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A home in Port Charlotte was destroyed by a fire this afternoon.

Neighbors on Toana Avenue called 911 around 2:30 p.m.

No one was home at the time, but Charlotte County firefighters found three dogs tied up outside the home. The dogs are safe with Animal Control at this time.

The roof collapsed, and the home sustained smoke damage. The floor also caved in.

The cause is still under investigation.
