LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A 19-year-old student from Dunbar High School has been released on bail, for allegedly starting a fight in a school courtyard Thursday.
Police say 19-year-old Jessica Nash was the instigator. She and four other students are facing misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace for interfering with school administration functions.
The school district says that fight was the result of a conflict that started between the students' families in their neighborhoods the day before. That erupted in to an argument on school grounds.
A sheriff's office report said deputies received a frantic radio call yesterday around noon. The responding deputy found a crowd of students gathered with a male student down on the ground, and the assistant principal was trying to revive him.
One student was sent to the hospital and no weapons were involved.
Nash allegedly started a verbal fight across the courtyard with another student. She was released on bail late Thursday night.
The school district has assigned extra school resource officers to Dunbar High School to stay through lunch time Friday. They do not expect any further conflict to come from this fight.
