LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- A second fatality is now reported as a result of the Friday afternoon crash involving a semi-truck at the intersection of Joel Boulevard and East 15th Street. Taylor Messina, 19, did not recover from injuries sustained and passed away while hospitalized yesterday. Tyler Messina, also 19, remains in critical condition.
Deputies are still investigating why 22-year-old Clayton Hayes, the driver of the vehicle Taylor and Tyler were riding in, failed to stop at the posted stop sign while attempting to turn south on Joel Boulevard. Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 1997 Peterbilt semi-truck, 43-year-old Jose Machin of Miami Gardens, was not injured and not at fault in the crash.
