FORT MYERS, Fla. -  The Fort Myers Police Department recently began a "roundup" of drug dealers. Undercover detectives made drug buys from 16 suspected drug dealers resulting in 47 felony charges. 

Police have arrested the following eight people on the list, so far:

-Roy Edgar Jones, 20, of 1414 Lura Avenue, was arrested for three counts sale of cocaine and three counts possession of cocaine.

-Newton Thomas, 38, was arrested for two counts sale of cocaine and two counts possession of cocaine.

-Daron Ward, 23, of 741 Veronica Shoemaker Blvd., was arrested for two counts sale of heroin and two counts possession of heroin.

-One juvenile was arrested for one count possession of marijuana with the intent to sell.

-Torey Wingate, 33, of 2325 Crawford Street, was arrested for one count sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a park and one count possession of cocaine.

-Taylor Gray, 21, of 2708 of Broadway, was arrested for one count sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, 1 count possession of cocaine and one count sale of marijuana.

-Jennifer Conley, 32, of 2568 Jackson Street,  was arrested for one count sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school and one count possession of cocaine.

-Joseph Scroggins, 25, of 2055 Braman Avenue, was arrested for one count sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school and one count possession of cocaine.

Detectives and officers will continue their efforts to locate the remaining suspects over the next several days. During the past year the Special Investigations Group has conducted nine drug roundups.  The results of the total operations show that a significant dent is being made in the street level drug trade. The operations have resulted in the arrests of 158 drug dealers. So far, 51 of them have been found guilty and are currently serving jail or prison sentences or probation.  The remaining cases are making their way through the judicial system.
