Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, three black females entered the Walmart, located at 545 Pine Island Road, proceeding directly to the housewares section of the store. In less than five minutes, two of the women loaded a grocery cart to its fullest with a variety of items, while the third stood watch for security guards or employees. All three women then left the store, neglecting to stop and pay for their selections, pushing out hundreds of dollars in stolen merchandise. After unloading the items into a silver Pontiac, the women entered the store a second time, at 7:19 a.m., repeating their game plan from just a few minutes earlier, again leaving the store with another cart full of items exactly six minutes later. After unloading the second haul, the three came back into the store at 7:47 a.m., filling another cart to the brim, then bypassing all points of sale at 7:51 a.m. In total, the 83 items stolen from the store added up to $1,994.55.
Upon review of surveillance video, security personnel and law enforcement were able to immediately identify one of the suspects as 25-year-old Shanice Stewart. Stewart had been trespassed from not only that Walmart, but also the Walmart on Colonial Boulevard, due to past thefts. Stewart has an extensive criminal history both here in Lee County, with 37 previous arrests, and in Manatee County – mostly for thefts and dealing in stolen property. She was arrested earlier this summer, as a result of a barrage of Crime Stoppers tips, after bringing her children to a store in Fort Myers, then having one of her children steal a woman’s wallet – later taking them all on a shopping spree at the Edison Mall.
A warrant for the arrest of Shanice Stewart, on charges of grand theft, has been issued, however detectives need the public’s help tracking Stewart down, and identifying the two other women who committed the thefts alongside Stewart.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stewart, or the identities of the other two women in the attached photos, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
