(LEE COUNTY, Fla.)-- The northbound lanes of I-75 between Bonita Beach Road and Corkscrew Road have re-opened after a church van rolled over Saturday. The interstate re-opened around 11:30 a.m. after it closed around 7:30 a.m.
Florida Highway Patrol Troopers tell WINK News the van rolled over on top of the overpass at Corkscrew Road. One person died.
Officials say 16 people were on the van and were taken to the hospital, with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
FHP says the van belongs to a Seventh Day Adventist Chuch from Broward County and was heading to Tampa. Lee County EMS says the accident resulted in multiple patients, and some of the occupants were entrapped in the wreckage. Estero Fire Rescue units worked to extricate the victims.
Lee County EMS worked with fire units from Estero and San Carlos to prioritize patients, establishing which were the most seriously injured.
Ten Lee County EMS ambulances and two helicopters, including the county's LeeFlight air medical service, transported the 15 patients to local hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately available.
