COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - "When somebody comes into Justin's place, they're kind of sequestered from society and tempations," said Vann Ellison, the President of St. Matthew's House.
St. Matthew's House runs Justin's Place, a place for people with substance abuse to get help. Vann Ellison, the President of St. Matthew's house, is looking at relocating to the former Hendry Correctional Institution.
"There is a lot of really beautiful things about it. The beauty is the symbol of captivity and bondage has now turned into a real kind of God's poetry as it becomes a place to set people free from the bonds of addiction," said Ellison.
The facility would be used just for the men's program.
"All the struggles for drugs and alcohol, are kind of artificially removed for a time so they can focus on their recovery, get their life together."
Right now, the state owns the property.
"It's a property that's there that would require work on our part, but it would work well for our purposes."
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection tells WINK News they haven't determined how they will bid the property. However, the grounds are maintained by the Department of Corrections.
