LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A suspected bank robber was in court for the first time this morning. Xavier Diggs is accused of robbing the Bank of America on Winkler Avenue last Wednesday. Investigators say Diggs and an accomplice disguised themselves as women and handed the teller a note demanding money.
Diggs arrest is the second bank robbery bust in just a few days. The first was on Friday when deputies in Hillsborough County arrested John Cross, the man accused of robbing the Wells Fargo on Six Mile Cypress off of Colonial, while wearing an Oakland A's t-shirt. Police say several people identified the 34-year-old through surveillance pictures and Crime Stoppers.
Several other suspects from different robberies are still on the loose. Police say one man wore a disguise and walked into the Edison National Bank on August 22nd, on Cleveland Avenue. Then on August 30th, a woman in a denim hat made off with money from Region's Bank in North Fort Myers. And yesterday, two men wearing masks robbed the Fifth Third bank on Colonial and State Road 82, near Lehigh Acres. Police say dye packs on the money they stole during that robbery exploded.
If you know any information about the robberies you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
