CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral is celebrating the hard working men and women who put the "labor" in Labor Day.
The Southwest Florida Labor Council has been honoring local labor unions for almost two decades now with their annual Labor Day Picnic. They're gathering today from noon to 5 p.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club.
Members of law enforcement, firefighters, electricians and more, both working and retired, are hailed as the cornerstone of Southwest Florida's growth. The Labor Council says its thanks to these individuals that we're able to take a day off, sit back and look and how far we've come in the workforce over the years.
Local candidates for the upcoming elections in the Cape Coral mayoral race, city council, Lee County commissioners, and more are scheduled to speak today at 2 p.m.
