PINE ISLAND, FL - Firefighters from companies across Lee county gathered at a public swimming pool on Pine Island to learn water safety. In Southwest Florida with all of its winding canals and backyard pools, fire is not the only danger firefighters face. They practiced falling into a pool with 50-60 pounds of gear on to simulate what could happen at residential fires where the family pool or nearby canal could cause accidents. The firefighters also practiced submerged vehicle rescues. The multi agency exercise is a part of an ongoing education initiative.
