MYRTLE BEACH, SC- Horry County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 59-year-old Naples man, wanted out of Los Angeles, for allegedly kidnapping his grandson.

Donald Eugene Byrd was located at a residence in Myrtle Beach. The grandson was also at the residence, and has been taken safely into protective custody.

Authorities say Byrd took his 12-year-old grandson, Zachary Byrd, from the child’s mother’s home and has been on the run for the past two years.

Byrd is currently in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, awaiting extradition back to Los Angeles California.

The case started out as a custody issue. Donald and Joyce Byrd, who live in a Naples home, were ordered to give up custody of their grandson. The child had lived in that home for six years while his mother was in school.
