FORT MYERS, FL--New developments regarding the FMPD officer who was fired for using aggresive force.
The February arrest is what's under the micrscope by the Citizens Police Review Board.
FMPD Chief Doug Baker decided to fire officer Trevor Lehman, accusing him of using excessive force.
In the dashcam video you can see officer Lehman throwing punches across 27 year old Chaylon McClary's face as he starts resisting.
Tuesday night the board voted that Chief Baker made the wrong decision to fire Lehman.
Even though a police training expert also agreed with Chief Baker that Lehman did in fact use too much force.
the board is now reccomending that Chief Baker should have given Lehman 40-hours of unpaid leave.
They now want Chief Baker to get Lehman additional training and re-hire him.
The meeting was full of FMPD officers supporting Lehman and agree with the citizens board.
Lehman's father feels they have the backing they need to get his son re-instated.
"It means the world to me. I worked with these guys, I worked hand in hand with these guys for a good part of my career," said Marty Lehman.
The board's reccomendation is non-binding and the decision is ultimatley up to Chief Doug Baker.
