LEHIGH ACRES, FL--A Lehigh mother plans to hug her kids extra tight after a bullet shot through their bedroom wall as they were sleeping last night, barely missing them.
It happened down E 15th street in Lehigh Acres.
Amy Gonzalez and her three children just moved in to the Lehigh house Sunday night.
Around 11pm, hey got one scary welcome.
Gonzalez told deputies a bullet shot right through the bedroom wall and hit a mattress and landed on the floor.
She says it missed her and her sleeping girls by just inches.
"When I turned my phone light on I saw the bullet right there on the floor. I went to pick it up and it was real hot and I dropped it," she said.
Her boyfriend's mother was also asleep in another room and she told deputies the gunshots were so loud, the sound woke her up.
"There was two pop sounds and we didn't know what they were," said Lora Howard.
Gonzalez says one of her daughters was supposed to be sleeping on the bottom bunk, where the bullet flew right over.
But for some reason she says, she made her daughter move to the top bunk and now believes that saved her life.
"They are everything to me. I wouldn't be anything without one of my kids and if I lost one of them I don't know what I would do," said Gonzalez.
"That is just too close for comfort," said Howard.
LCSO is still investigating.
