FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Art of the Olympians, a museum highlighting the artwork from former Olympians and other Olympic memorabelia closed its doors on Wednesday with little fanfare. A note posted on the front door of their downtown, waterfront building and a message on the organizations website alterted visitors. The AOTO used the city building for the last 5 years. Their lease, only 1 dollar per year. But Mayor Randy Henderson says the organization still could not generate enough revenue to survive. Last Friday AOTO CEO Bob Beamon resigned. Wink news made numberous attempts to contact Beamon and AOTO founder Kathy Oerter. They did not respond. Mayor Henderson says the city has been in talks with the Columbia restaurant chain to possibly lease out the building.
