PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A Charlotte County man is celebrating his 85th birthday with the thrill of a lifetime! Wednesday, he decided to check another item off his bucket list: skydiving.
Free falling from 13,000 feet.
Some might like to celebrate their birthday with a dream vacation. But for 85-year-old Bob Peckett, he decided to take a trip at a quicker pace. Skydiving from 13,000 feet in the air.
"It was so out of the blue. My dad's not really like this I mean... he acts young for his age but he's kind of a nervous person so i never expected him to jump out of a plane," says daughter, Patricia Heck.
The daredevil decision even caught Carmen, his wife of 52 years, by surprise.
"He said that when he was 82 he had mentioned it but I just assumed he was kidding... I won't be doing it at 85," she laughs.
So with his harness sinched and a little kiss for good luck, Peckett's family cheered the birthday boy on as he made the climb. It's one that Skydive Southwest Florida owner, Roy Torgeirson says others just like Peckett try every week
"The oldest one we had, she was 91 we had another lady, she was 90 so yeah, especially after the movie, 'The Bucket List,'"he says.
Twenty minutes and thousands of feet later, Peckett took the dive and had a perfect landing.
"Went around then when the chute opens it pulls you up then you just float down like a feather," he says.
Making his 85th birthday one he'll never forget!
"He would give us the shirt off his back and would do anything for anybody. so when he wants to celebrate something we want to make it all about him!" Heck adds.
His family tells us the next thing Peckett wants to do is drive around in a mustang convertible!
