SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla.- A 2-year-old was found wandering the streets of Lee County at 9:00 p.m. on Friday. The man who was supposed to be watching her said it was all a big misunderstanding, but deputies said he smelled of marijuana and alcohol.

Deputies arrested Jarrett Williams and charged him with child cruelty. A neighbor found the little girl wandering around the intersection of Captiva Blvd. and Iris Road. The girl was away from her home for more than half an hour. Williams said he's been wrongfully accused.

Neighbor Andrea Jones said the child was carrying a purse and her shoes were on the wrong feet. After half a hour, and multiple failed attempts to find her parents, Jones called 911. That's when deputies said Jarrett Williams ran over to them, yelling the child's name.

Williams took the deputies to the girl's house on Lobelia Road and spoke to the girl's mother. Deputies say they smelled alcohol on Williams and marijuana coming from the living room and arrested the 23-year-old.

Williams told WINK News he had one beer and doesn't smoke marijuana. He also said his fiance, the toddler's mother, was supposed to take the girl to her grandmother's house.

Williams said a judge told him he is not allowed to stay at the home. He has hired an attorney.

The Department of Children and Families said there is an open and active investigation. The child is with her mother.
