TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa's police chief lost part of her index finger during a boating accident and she's had to retrain herself to draw and shoot her weapon.
The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/12hs1St) reports Chief Jane Castor was lowering her boat in the water in June when the chain on the boat lift jammed. She reached out to the mechanism's flywheel to get it moving again.
The machine started up again and her index finger was severed near the first knuckle, right below the fingernail.
Castor also learned how to shoot with her middle finger and scored 38 out of 40 points at a gun range when she had to requalify for her firearms certification.
