There's no shortage of things to do in Southwest Florida this July 4th! Scroll to the bottom for a list of road closures.

FORT MYERS

The River District Alliance is proud to bring the biggest and best fireworks in Southwest Florida and family fun back to downtown Fort Myers this 4th of July. The Third Annual Fort Myers Freedom Fest will take place Thursday, July 4th in the Historic River District in downtown Fort Myers.

The block party is presented by the River District Alliance. Live music by Deb and the Dynamics begins at 6:00 p.m.

Fireworks presented by Chico's FAS will light up the sky between the bridges at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks will be choreographed to music broadcast on 96.9 More FM. This is a FREE event so bring your lawn chairs, but no coolers please. We will have great food and beverage vendors, along with a bounce house for the kids, and DJ Tom. In addition, all the restaurants, bars and retail shops will be open.

There is plenty of free parking, as well as a handicapped parking lot at the Post Office on Edwards & Monroe. The city garages will also be open for a fee.

PUNTA GORDA

Fishermen's Village will host their annual 4th of July Celebration. Admission and parking are free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Family friendly activities begin at 11 am and include "Metamasque" face painting and Jeff the Juggler. Village Restaurants will offer dining specials.

Live music will be presented on the Village Center Stage featuring "Beans and Seeds" 11 am-3 pm and "Mercy" 5-9 pm. Viewing of the annual July 4th fireworks display over Charlotte Harbor begins at 9 pm.

SANIBEL

8:45 p.m.- Fireworks display - The Sanibel & Captiva Islands' Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the fireworks display this year. Fireworks will be launched from the north end terminus of Bailey Road. Best viewing of the fireworks display is from the bayside of Sanibel and from any of the Sanibel Causeway Islands.

CAPE CORAL

The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral will host the RE/MAX Realty Team-City of Cape Coral Red, White and Boom on July 4. The festivities will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge. The fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m.

The Cape Coral Bridge as well as Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard to the bridge will be closing at 6:00am on July 4. Please plan your day accordingly and arrange for alternate routes during your travels. Vehicles attempting to turn east or west on Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard will be directed to make a u-turn and head north.

There will be the Entech Computers Free Boom bus with handicap accessibility picking up at all the downtown parking lot locations including:

-Club Square
-Iguana Mia
-Sweetbay
-Big John’s

Parking is free in any of those locations. There will be additional parking at the El Rey Jesus Church located at 1629 SE 47th Street for $10.00 per car, no charge for handicap parking.

There will be a free kid’s area sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral.

Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. and the race will start at 7:00 a.m. at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.

Runners can register for the race at the Fort Myers Track Club website www.ftmyerstrackclub.com. Sign-ups welcome on event day!

The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral will present an American Tribute for our local men and women serving in the war zones.

Duo Romantico & Friends will be performing an All American Show (Expect the music of Elvis Frank, Sinatra, Bruce Springteen, Barbara Streisand and many more) at the Italian American Club, located at 4725 Vincennes Blvd. in Cape Coral.

DJ Ralphy "D" will also be spinning a Patriotic Muscial Tribute.

The event is happening on July 4th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Get an early start on your 4th of July celebration by getting in the spirit of the holiday at the family favorite Great American Picnic Thursday, July 4th from
Noon - 3:30 pm at the Marina at Cape Harbour!

The event is a traditional Cape Coral birthday salute to the nation.  It begins with the  Cape Coral VFW Post 8463 Color Guard presentation.  Then Marcella Brown will kick off the event singing the national anthem along with a medley of patriotic songs to get everyone in the spirit.  Marcella is 16 years old, has performed at the Fort Myers Miracle  Baseball Stadium and graciously agreed to join us. It is a family friendly day of activities for everyone featuring delicious foods, contests, live entertainment and music.

Again this year, the ever-popular "Best Patriotic Pet Contest" gets underway with our distinguished judges, Lois Thome, WINK-TV news anchor; and John Woods, with the Carefree Boat Club. Lois will take on the challenge of showcasing the adorable, sometimes comical and always entertaining pet contestants.  Medals will be awarded and the grand prize is a gift basket from the Cape Harbour Merchants.  There is no cost
to enter. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the contest starts at 1:00 p.m.  

This is the 7th year that members of the non-profit Adopt-A-Troop Foundation will be raising money to support our military. You can write a personalized message on the large banner that will be sent to our heroes overseas!     

Also on tap will be the traditional "Apple Pie Baking Contest" hosted by Pignoli on the Harbour, call 239-541-0800 to confirm if you plan to bake a pie and enter the contest!  

Be sure and sign up that day for the "Bubble Gum Contest" hosted by Run Agrounds and The Joint will be heading up a "Hula Hoop Contest".  High Maintenance Salon & Spa along with Divine Diva's Boutique will adorn children and those young at heart with patriotic tattoos and firecracker ponytails.  The arts & crafts area will be in full swing again this year for kids to color "Thank You Cards" & "Bandanas" for the troops!  

Throughout the festival, Chris the DJ with "Juke Box Hero" will provide entertainment. Several vendors from our Farmers Market will be joining us to display their goodies. There will be a live demo with Rebecca and the Zumba Team.

Come on down for an afternoon full of action and excitement at the Rumrunners, The Joint and Run Agrounds will entice guests with several menu choices, and Pignoli on the Harbour will be selling the customary 4th of July fare of hot dogs and  hamburgers along with their daily menu.  Merchants along the Marina Promenade will have their doors open featuring red-hot holiday specials.  We have several new shops

NAPLES

The annual Fourth of July Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the City Pier. The show will last approximately 30 minutes. Guests are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket to enjoy this amazing display of fireworks along the sandy shores of Naples City Beach. Following the fireworks, many businesses will be open along Fifth Avenue South for dinner, dessert, and shopping!

Mercato offers an alternative for families looking for some free, fun Fourth of July festivities without pre- and post-firework traffic. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and well-behaved pets to the Indie-Pendence Day Fest this Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Beach coverups are allowed at this come-as-you-are event.

The fest will take place on the lawn across from The Pub and Naples Flatbread and will feature energetic indie rock by Andrews Stamps’ The Freestyles.

Mercato’s new giant checker board, measuring 10 feet by 10 feet, will debut at this event along with cornhole.

The outdoor bar, hosted by Naples Flatbread & Wine Bar, will serve libations and food.

Ms. Silvia will provide complimentary face painting for the kids with designs ranging from patriotic to tigers and butterflies. Kids will also enjoy coloring pages in the Yankee Doodle Art Tent.

At 8:00 p.m. guests will be showered with red, white and blue beads during the bead toss. Twelve lucky winners who catch specially marked beads will receive a variety of prizes from Mercato merchants including gift cards, merchandise and more from Pandora, Bio NY, Mark Loren Designs, Bravo! Stage 62 Deli, Protocol, Naples Flatbread, Yogurbella and Le Macaron. 

ROAD CLOSURES

Fort Myers

Edwards St. is closed from Monroe to Hendry Streets. Bay St. is closed from Dean to Jackson. Hendry will be closed from First St. to the River, from Dean to Bay, and from Hendry to Jackson.

Cape Coral

The Cape Coral Bridge as well as Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard to the bridge will be closed until 3:00 a.m. Friday for Red, White & Boom festivities.

Bonita Springs

Old 41 will be closed between Goodwin Street and Pennsylvania Avenue from 3:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. for the bed race and Party in the Park.
