LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Lee County Sheriff's Office patrol car is temporarily out of service after being struck by lightning early Monday.

According to authorities, the deputy was just heading home from an overnight shift. She was driving north on I-75 when lightning struck the vehicle, blew out the top emergency lights and cut off the engine.

A sheriff's office spokesperson says the deputy was able to pull over unharmed.

According to the National Weather Service, three lightning deaths have been reported this year. Last year, the state led the country with five lightning-related deaths.
