FORT MYERS, Fla. - A tractor trailer, heading southbound on US-41 was attempting to turn onto Hanson Street when a Honda civic, travelling northbound slammed into it. The crash ruptured the trucks fuel tank leading to a fire that sent black smoke billowing into the sky. US-41 was partially shut down for nearly 6 hours as fire crews battled the blaze. The occupants of both vehicles miraculously escaped serious injury. County crews replaced traffic signals damaged by the flames, while road crews worked to clean up spilled fuel and debris. Officials say road repairs will be necessary, but tell WINK News the repairs will be done at night.
