Part of the Memorial Day tradition means cutting our military members a deal. Local businesses both big and small are saying "thank you" to both active duty members and veterans with discounts and freebies for the holiday.

In Fort Myers, Edison and Ford Winter Estates are honoring veterans and their families with free admission. The estates are open until 5:30 p.m on Memorial Day.

Dempsey's Diner on Pine Island Rd. in Cape Coral is offering a free burger, fries, and a drink to all active duty military personnel and veterans. The same meal is $5 for all customers. Dempsey's is open until 2 p.m.

Veterans and active military members get 10% off at Outback restaurants, Home Depot, and Lowe's stores. Jo-Ann fabrics is giving all vets and their families a 20% discount.

Kicking off the unofficial start to summer, 7/11 is offering a .49-cent deal for medium Slurpees.
