FORT MYERS, Fla.- One Fort Myers teen wasn't going down without a fight early Thursday morning, when a suspect allegedly held a gun to her head and demanded her cell phone.
The victim told Fort Myers Police she was walking a familiar route to Fort Myers High School at 6:30 a.m. when an unknown male asked if she attended Fort Myers High School, before mentioning her cell phone. She ignored him and continued walking to school.
According to his arrest report, the 15-year-old suspect then pulled a gun from his pants, held it to her head and told her he'd shoot if she didn't hand over the phone.
The victim tried to fight the suspect off and flag down vehicles as they passed her, but she was ignored.
The boy punched her several times in the head, and she tried to punch back. He again threatened to shoot her, then reached into her pocket, grabbed her cell phone and fled south on Jackson St., riding a bike with unusual handlebars. The victim ran to a family member's house and called police.
Officers spotted the suspect walking on Jackson St. and knew him from previous incidents. He was in violation of youth protection during school hours. When he saw the police cruiser, he allegedly ran between parked vehicles and into an alley on Maple Avenue.
Police caught up with the teen, and placed under arrest for trespassing after being warned. An article of his clothing matched that of the suspect description given by the victim, who positively identified him in a line up.
He was transported to the Lee County JAC, and charged with armed robbery.
The victim says, "he came over to the side of the street and threw his bike down and put his gun to my face and said gimme your phone and I said no. He kinda hit me in the side of my temple with the gun to get my attention, but I was like, I just wanna go to school. He got in front of me and forcefully snatched my phone from my pocket and I retaliated because I thought he was going to hit me, so I grabbed him by his hoodie."
She says she and the suspect got into a fist fight before he finally left with her phone. She says she wasn't scared, she's just worried about this happening to someone else.
