CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Raymond Lugo, 38, of Punta Gorda, has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison, to be followed by lifetime supervised release, for producing child pornography. The court also ordered Lugo to forfeit his computers and camera, which were involved in the commission of the offense.
Lugo pleaded guilty on October 31, 2012.
According to court documents, Lugo victimized an approximately 2-year-old child on multiple occasions, for the purpose of producing child pornography photographs. Lugo photographed himself sexually molesting the child. He then traded those images with others for the purpose of obtaining other child pornography images.
The case was brought about by Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
