MIAMI (AP) - A federal agent spotted a boat he believed to be stolen being towed down Interstate 95 near Miami and called the Florida Highway Patrol.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Tuesday said the brand new 28-foot Regulator was stolen in South Carolina. They say the style of boat is primarily used in sport fishing but also favored by drug and migrant smugglers.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/YEIS5b ) reports an agent from the Fort Lauderdale-based CBP Office of Air and Marine spotted the boat about 5 p.m. on April 25. The truck driver was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. The Herald reports that in recent months officials have seen an increase in the number of boats intercepted off the South Florida coast carrying undocumented people of various nationalities.
