PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a central Florida man has drowned after a large wave pushed him away from the shore.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office reports that 56-year-old Jose Duran Castanon was swimming with friends Sunday near the Fort Pierce Inlet when a large wave from a boat wake pushed Castanon and another swimmer away from the shore.
A boater stopped to help the swimmers, but authorities say Castanon fell back into the water while he was trying to climb onboard.
Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers (http://www.ittybittyurl.com/1jER) reports another swimmer pulled Castanon to shore, about 10 yards away.
Castanon was pronounced dead at the hospital.
