MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (AP) - Central Florida deputies say they fatally shot an armed man during a domestic dispute call.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey says five deputies responded to reports of shots being fired at a Merritt Island home Monday night.

By the time they arrived, 57-year-old William Emanuel Poplos' fiancee had managed to get away from the home. Deputies positioned themselves behind a patrol car and ordered Poplos to come out.

Witnesses say Poplos pointed a gun at the deputies, who then opened fire. Poplos was taken to a Cape Canaveral hospital, where he died.

Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/Y24KqZ) reports that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.

No other injuries were reported.
