Fort Myers police are investigating a shooting homicide that occurred early Sunday.

Fort Myers police confirmed on Tuesday that two men were shot and one died from his injuries.

The homicide occurred around 2 a.m. in a strip mall at 3639 Palm Beach Blvd.

Police did not specify what business it happened in, but the strip mall is home to an ice cream shop, a convenience store, and a restaurant.

Police have released an image of a person of interest in the case and are asking the public to help identify him.

WINK News spoke with employees at nearby businesses and one of the locations said they’re not surprised, explaining that crime happens a lot in the area.

“I work here across the street,” Erick Vrskovy said. “It’s a tragedy this happens often. It sucks because this was a really nice neighborhood when I moved in here about a year ago but now I’m giving it a second thought but I don’t know what to think anymore.”

“Of course, I feel bad; I heard somebody got killed, especially if it was a young kid, and for what? For just having fun, and you go to have fun and that’s it,” Abed Alzo, who works a few doors down said.

“I came in, and they told me someone got murdered here,” Alzo said.

A worker at one of the nearby food trucks said he heard a gunshot.

Anyone with information on the person of interest or homicide is asked to call the police department at (239) 321-7700 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
