I-75 cameras not helpful to FHP investigation of deadly wrong-way crash

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The driver in a wrong-way wreck is in critical condition after crashing head-on into another car Sunday morning. It is unknown how 46-year-old Brian Canfield of Fort Myers ended up driving north in the southbound lanes on Interstate-75 near mile marker 132 and because the cameras along the highway livestream without recording, the Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate.

Authorities said it would be incredibly costly to store footage from the many cameras that run along state highways.

The agency is awaiting Canfield’s toxicology reports.

The driver of the second car, 34-year-old Anne Shifley of Madeira Beach, was killed in the wreck. A witness ran to her side to before she took her last breath.
