TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott says he is opposed to significant increases in contribution limits for campaigns.
    
The Florida House is expected on Friday to approve a bill (HB 569) that would let statewide candidates accept $5,000 contributions. The current limit is $500. The legislation would allow legislators to accept $3,000 contributions.
    
Melissa Sellers, a spokeswoman for Scott, said that the House proposal for campaign donations "concentrates more power to the already powerful and hurts the ability of individual citizens to be part of the process."
    
The campaign finance bill also makes several other significant changes - including allowing incumbent candidates to keep unspent money from campaigns.
    
Democratic legislators tried to alter some of the provisions - including the contribution limit - but Republicans defeated the amendments on Thursday.
