TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Deputies say a pedestrian who was struck by a passing vehicle's mirror assaulted the driver when he stopped to check on him.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened early Wednesday near Tampa.
Deputies say that 41-year-old Chuckarat Ratanakarn stopped to see if 26-year-old Philip Jackson was ok after he realized his vehicle hit him. That's when Jackson started punched him in the face. Deputies say Jackson continued hitting the victim and demanding his wallet.
An arrest report says Jackson went through the victim's car looking for anything of value before brandishing a handgun. He fled into an apartment. Deputies quickly surrounded the apartment and arrested Jackson on multiple charges.
He was treated for minor injuries and taken to jail. The victim was also treated.
