CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Some Cape Coral seniors are proving you can be active at any age. Some ladies took the plunge in their community pool for a synchronized swimming show. They hope to encourage other seniors to get moving.
Cue the music! These ladies of Gulf Coast Village are making a splash with synchronized swimming.
"We are showing the people what we do three times a week," said instructor Rosemary Karpinski.
The show is a part of Gulf Coast Village's Health and Wellness Expo. These ladies, all in their 80's, aren't afraid to get their feet wet. and say fitness in the water has done wonders for their health.
"I think the pool is the most important part of our exercising daily," said swimmer Marion Straussfogel.
"It takes the pressure off your joints, you have no stress on any part of your body," said swimmer Eldora Haines.
They do everything from yoga, to cardio, to strength training. Their synchronized show is something they do on special occasions. The synchronized swimming was only a small section of the Health and Wellness Expo at Gulf Coast Village. People were also able to learn about senior safety.. and speak with different vendors.
"We believe it's incredible important for seniors to know whats available to them," said marketing director Dani Johnson.
As for the swimming? These ladies say it keeps them moving. "Got me motivated to come down, rather than not do anything," said Haines.
They want to act as inspiration for others, saying what they do is fun, and it's not as hard as you might think.
They put on the swimming show every year.
