FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- The smell of dead fish has been strong on Fort Myers Beach for the last few days because of the red tide, but clean up crews have been moving a long the six miles of sand picking up dead fish, which is helping with the smell and the sight of decomposing fish.
The town tells us additional workers have been placed on the beach to help with this cleanup. Crews will continue to collect dead fish as long as the problem continues.
According to the town manager, the number of dead fish picked up yesterday was 25 percent more than Monday. Red tide is affecting several Southwest Florida beaches.
A meeting will be held tonight on Sanibel Island to inform the public on the red tide. That meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the Sanibel Community House.
