FORT MYERS, Fla. - Jury selection is underway in the trial of Dustin McIntyre, 23, charged with the deaths of Israel Ponce and Daniel Leonor in August 2010.
According to Lee County deputies, McIntyre and a handful of other men who are charged as accomplices, beat and suffocated Ponce and Leonor, drive their bodies to a remote field in Bonita Springs, then set their bodies and the vehicle on fire. Deputies said the crime resulted from a botched drug deal.
McIntyre faces two counts of 2nd-degree murder and arson.
During Tuesday's questioning of potential jurors, prosecutors asked the jury pool what their feelings were about co-defendant testimony, making it likely some of the alleged accomplices will testify against McIntyre.
Prosecutors indicated the trial could last through the end of the week, or even continue through Tuesday.
