FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police arrested 22-year-old Brittany Day on Monday after an anonymous complaint from a witness who had seen her beating a child.

When officers arrived at her residence, they say Day appeared agitated and irate, telling them, "The baby won't stop crying."

Officers located the child in the bathroom sitting on a training toilet. Day allegedly told police the child was there because she constantly goes to the bathroom on herself, "so she can sit there all day."

The child had open lacerations on her lips that were slightly bleeding, bruising on her neck, and several small lacerations on her forehead. EMS arrived on scene and also identified what appeared to be road rash on the child's leg. The child was transported to Health Park for treatment.

Police say Day admitted to beating her child and dragging her on the ground by the hair. She allegedly also said, "I have the right to beat my child."

During the investigation, FMPD spoke with several witnesses who allegedly said this was not the first incident of this nature.

Upon examination, the Child Protection Team discovered multiple bruises, scratches and abrasions not commonly found on children. The wounds were in various stages of healing and were found all over the child's body.

Day was arrested on one count of child abuse.
