LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- The condition of the motorcycle rider in last night's crash has improved. He remains hospitalized and is identified as 45-year-old Marc Clark of Lehigh Acres.

The investigation continues and no charges have been filed at this time.

On Wednesday at 9:05 p.m., LCSO received a call about a traffic crash. The incident occurred on Alabama Road near the intersection of Stafford Creek Boulevard, Lehigh Acres.

Preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle turned left from southbound Alabama Road to enter the Vista Palms community. A motorcyclist, a male in his 40's, traveling north collided with the right-rear of the car. The motorcycle then veered toward a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and glanced off the side of it. As a result, the rider fell from the motorcycle into the northbound roadway while the motorcycle came to rest in the southbound lane.

A witness to the crash stopped to render aid to the rider. While doing so, a third vehicle approached in the northbound lane of Alabama Road. Despite the witnesses attempts to warn the approaching driver, the vehicle struck the rider lying in the roadway. Reportedly, nearby residents gathered and lifted the car, which had the rider pinned underneath. The rider was extricated and transported to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Due to the nature of the crash, deputies with the Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit are continuing the investigation.  Alabama Road has been closed between Gifford Avenue North and Navajo Avenue.  A tow truck is on scene and the roadway should open within the next hour.

No charges have been filed at this time.  The investigation continues.  Updates will be provided via email.
