COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Two Collier County airports will be able to move forward with runway projects.
Last year, Collier County commissioners approved FAA grants for runway projects at both Marco Island and Immokalee Airports. But the new board brought the decision back for reconsideration. They gave the projects the final green light Wednesday.
Commissioner Georgia Hiller says it was important to make sure the money was being spent properly.
"We expend the funds as a county and then we go back to the FAA and they reimburse us. If the FAA were to see ineligible expenses included in our request for reimbursement, the problem then becomes the taxpayers burden."
There was concern that if board members reversed their decision, the county could be liable for work already done.
