LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Mindy Pittman says she heard about the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut while surfing the internet. The story hit close to home because Pittman was once a student at Sandy Hook elementary school. She says the tragedy is likely to affect the entire town for years to come because it is such a close knit community. "Everybody knows everyone else", Pittman said. An employee at the Lee county schools administration building now, Pittman spent a decade as a teacher and recalls the emergency drills she was taught, "there was an uneasyness just performing the drills". She says she can't imagine the terror of the teachers and students when the drill became a reality.
