DEEP CREEK, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a father and his two sons for having a house party in Deep Creek last Friday and serving alcohol to minors. Shawn Jacka Cook, 43, of 27148 Villarrica Drive, was charged with Open House Party and Contributing to Delinquency of a Child. His two sons, 20-year-old Zakary Ty Cook and 18-year-old Austin Lee Cook, both live in their father’s home andwere charged with Resisting an Officer.
CCSO received several calls about a loud party and possible underage drinking in their home. One caller said young females were walking around with no shirts on and overheard some of the subjects coming out of the home saying how high they were. When deputies arrived they observed numerous subjects who all appeared to be under 18; they all ran back into the home. No one would answer the door and deputies went around back and saw numerous subjects in the screened lanai area. Deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana, observed several beer cans and beer kegs.
Zakary and Austin Cook finally approached deputies, said they lived here, and stated, “You don’t have the right to be here.”
Deputies observed an 18-year-old inside the home hunched over a bar stool with no shirt and what appeared to be blood on his chest and shorts. The brothers were told by deputies that they were entering the home to check on the wellbeing of subjects inside. The brothers proceeded to obstruct entry and were arrested. All rooms were cleared except the two bedrooms which were locked. One deputy looked inside through an outside window and saw a subject lying on the bed. Entry was finally made and deputies found an 18-year-old male highly intoxicated, not coherent and was vomiting on himself. Shawn Cook was also in the same room. EMS was called and transported the 18-year-old to Charlotte Regional Medical Center; his blood alcohol was .202.
The father, Shawn Cook, said he had given his sons permission to have a party and he attempted to gain control of the party but it got out of hand with a crowd too large to handle. Cook said he did not know alcohol was being served in his home. CCSO also received a call about a boy lying behind a residence near the Cook boy’s home. The 16-year-old was transported by EMS to Peace River Regional Medical Center. Deputies talked to the juvenile at the hospital and he said he recalls drinking an alcoholic beverage that had gin in it.
All three were transported to the Charlotte County Jail. The father, Shawn Cook was released on $5,000 bond; his sons posted $500 bond each and were released.
