OCALA, Fla. (AP) - Birders in Marion County say they need a little help with the annual bird count.
The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/XNZs0W ) reports the Marion Audubon Society is short on watercraft for the count that will be conducted on Jan. 3. They're hoping people with boats can help transport them along the Withlacoochee and Rainbow rivers so wading birds can be included in the count.
Audubon spokesman Lawrence Sutton says they hope to have about 14 groups, each with two to five people to spread out across 15 miles of range in southwest Marion County.
He says a number of migrating birds are in the area this time of year. He says they'll be documenting the species and how many of each they spot.
Sutton says he's been birding about eight years.
