ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- An 88-year-old man lost his life in a car accident in Englewood on Monday afternoon. The crash happened on State Road 776 at Biggs Street, just after 4:30 p.m.
The victim, Louis Plante, was the passenger in a Buick SUV that collided with a Dodge van. The driver of the Buick, 87-year-old Doris Plante, remains in critical condition at Blake Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Dodge, 43-year-old Kenneth Craig, is listed in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital.
According to FHP, the SUV that was stopped at a stop sign southbound on Biggs Street. The van was eastbound in the left turn lane on SR 776, approaching the intersection with Biggs Street. Doris Plante proceeded to make a left turn onto SR 776, while Craig proceeded to make a left turn onto Biggs Street. That's when the two vehicles collided.
Louis Plante was pronounced deceased at Lee Memorial Hospital at 6:44 p.m.
Charges are pending further investigation.
