MIAMI (AP) - Families around the state are holding adoption ceremonies for foster kids during National Adoption Month.
Our Kids of Miami-Dade and Monroe hosted a "Wizard of Oz"-themed event at the Miami Children's Museum on Friday where more than 60 kids were adopted.
In other ceremonies around the state, 20 foster kids in Hillsborough County, 16 in West Palm Beach and 11 kids in Tallahassee were adopted this month.
The Department of Children and Families also recently created a video parody of the pop song "Call Me Maybe" to recruit foster and adoptive parents.
About 800 Florida foster children are waiting for a permanent home. Last year, 3,250 children were adopted from Florida foster care.
Teens, sibling groups and children with special needs are the hardest to place.
