LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Last weekend, crews replaced beams damaged in at traffic accident on Daniels Pkwy. During the next week, crews will be repairing several beams and are working on bridge deck replacement on the outside lanes and shoulders of the northbound and southbound interstate.
-Beam repair work
-Preparing “concrete forms” for the bridge deck
-Adding reinforcing steel
-Pouring concrete for new deck (outside lanes and shoulders) and barrier wall
-Lanes then will be restriped and barrier wall replaced on I-75
This work requires detouring eastbound Daniels Parkway traffic at night/overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Thursday night/overnight and continuing through next Tuesday night/overnight.
Detoured traffic will use I-75 southbound to Alico Road then eastbound to either I-75 or Treeline Avenue to return northbound to Daniels Parkway. Two (sometimes one) lanes on Daniels Parkway eastbound remain open during the day. No daytime detours are expected.
These same nights/overnights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., motorists should expect one lane northbound and one lane southbound on I-75 at the overpass to be open to traffic.
The speed limit on I-75 is reduced to 60 mph for northbound traffic and 50 mph for southbound traffic in this area.
Plan extra travel time especially if destinations are time sensitive, pay attention to traffic signs, and use caution in this area.
Two lanes northbound and two lanes southbound on I-75 are expected to remain open to traffic during the daytime. The speed limit is reduced. One of the two lanes southbound is narrower in width.
Westbound Daniels Parkway presently is open to traffic. The eastbound Daniels Parkway on-ramp to northbound I-75 will be closed during this project.
Drivers also are reminded to watch their speed on both I-75 and Daniels Parkway. Courtesy, caution, and patience are encouraged traveling through this area. Florida Highway Patrol is on-site to assist with traffic management. Motorists may use alternate routes depending on destinations.
These bridges are safe and are open to traffic. Parts of the structures affected are closed to traffic and will be repaired. Repairs are under way and it is possible this work may finish before December first, weather permitting. Clean-up activities on Daniels Parkway follow bridge repair work.
The Florida Department of Transportation’s asset management contractor for I-75, ICA, is responding to damage to the I-75/Daniels Parkway overpass in Lee County (mile marker 131) that occurred during a traffic incident Tuesday, November 6. Multiple beams were damaged and involve both northbound and southbound bridges. ICA will seek third party reimbursement for repairs. Damage is estimated at $750,000.
