Update: Collier Co. Deputy-Involved Shooting

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The Collier County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Friday's deputy-involved shooting.

Deputies responded to the 7-Eleven at Airport Pulling Road and Estey Avenue after someone called to report a suspicious man drinking beer and acting erratically.

The caller said the man appeared to have a gun and was sitting near a dumpster in a heavily populated area, according to the sheriff's office.

The man threatened deputies with what appeared to be a firearm, but was later deemed fake.

Two of the deputies fired at the man who has been identified as Duane Gregory.

Gregory is described as a homeless man with a lengthy criminal history.

He's listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital.

The deputies involved are:  Cpl. Charles Cramer, 43 and Cpl. Fano, 38.  They have been placed on administrative leave, which is policy procedure during an internal investigation.

Cpl. Cramer, 43 has been a member of the agency for 25 years and is currently assigned to the Major Crimes Bureau, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Cpl. Fano, 38 has been a member of the agency for 12 years and is currently assigned to the East Naples Patrol District.

Once the Major Crimes Bureau investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for review.
