COLLIER COUNTY, Fla - A disturbing discovery thousands of miles away. Child porn is found on a cell phone and the sex crimes are traced back to Naples.
A North Naples mother tells WINK News she's shocked to learn her former neighbor got arrested for having sex with young girls.
The crimes surfaced after the man, Miguel Ixcotoyac, 21, lost his cell phone in California.
A neighbor of Ixcotoyac tells WINK News she lived next door to the suspect for more than a year. "We started hanging out. We got along really well. We would go to the beach with the kids. My kids would sometimes go to their house and their kids would come to my house."
In June, Ixcotoyac moved to Fresno. A sheriff's report says a homeless man found his cell phone and tried to sell it. The man, who tried to buy the phone, found video of Ixcotoyac having sex with two young girls.
"I was surprised," says Ixcotoyac's neighbor. "I felt like I was going to have a heart attack because it hit me like a bucket of cold water. I didn't know that was going on."
She tells me DCF came in and took her two young children afraid they too may be victims of Ixcotoyac.
"They wanted to make sure in the videos that he made, that I wasn't there and they wanted to make sure I wasn't an accomplice," she says.
Fresno Police tracked his victims to Naples. Both young girls were taken to the Children's Advocacy Center of Collier County. Experts there say cell phones are making it easier to get away with an awful crime, but also leaves the evidence behind.
"Typically these are people who befriended the child, are friends of the family, are family members. they've gained the childs trust, they've gained the family members trust," says CEO Jackie Stephens.
At this point, Ixcotoyac's neighbor still doesn't know if her kids are victims, but she tells me her trust has been forever broken. "I was ignorant. I was closed minded because nothing like this had ever happened to me, especially with someone that I really trusted."
According to the Sheriff's Office the sex crimes took place in February and Many. A warrant for his arrest was issued back in August. Ixcotoyac turned himself in Monday to the Collier County jail.
He will face a judge on Thursday.
