LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A 14-year-old boy is being treated at Health Park for a leg injury, after being hit by an SUV Wednesday morning on Constitution Circle in San Carlos Park. The victim has been identified as Giovany Richard of Fort Myers.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper says the accident happened just after 6:00 a.m. at the corner of Constitution Circle and Adams Circle. FHP reports the boy crossed in front of an oncoming vehicle, and though the SUV swerved to miss him, he was struck by the front end.
The teen has been cited for failure to yield to the car's right of way. The driver, 28-year-old Jose Herrera Torres, was cited for driving without a license.
Mike McClintock, a witness, lives on the corner where the accident happened and tells WINK News he heard a loud thud, and by the time he came out, he saw emergency personnel arriving on scene.
Alfonso Longoria, another witness, lives a few houses down the street from where this occurred and says the driver left his house just after 6:00 a.m. Longoria says the driver told him he was only travelling about 20 mph when he hit the teen.
FHP says that there is a high school bus stop within two blocks of where the accident occurred.
