PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested the granddaughter of a 77-year-old Port Charlotte woman on 23 felony charges for stealing jewelry and a computer, and selling at two pawn shops. Christy Lee Skorupski, 32, of 2532 Newbury Street, was arrested and charged with Grand Theft from a Person 65 Years or Older, 11 counts of Dealing in Stolen Property, and 11 counts of False Verification to a Pawn Broker.

On Sep. 4, the grandmother called CCSO to report Skorupski had stolen many jewelry items and a computer and pawned them at Westchester Gold and Ambassador Pawn Shop. The grandmother said Skorupski moved in with her Jan. 1 of this year from Connecticut to live with her to try and clean up her drug habit. The victim said she noticed the items missing and checked her granddaughter’s room and found 11 pawn shop receipts and turned them over to the CCSO detectives.

Detectives checked the Pawn Finder database and located the stolen items on file. They went to the pawn shops and verified all 11 transactions by thumb print and driver’s license photo of Skorupski being made from July 17 to Aug. 31. The grandmother paid $600 to the pawn shops to retrieve her stolen property back; the amount totally paid to Skorupski.

Skorupski was located, arrested, and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where she remains on $305,000 bond.
