LEE COUNTY, FL - More than a century ago, Labor Day was proposed by a union leader as a way to give workers a day of rest. Now, many people have forgotten the meaning of the day. Local union leaders held a picnic for union members and their family and friends to raise awareness about problems facing unions today. Nearly 200 people took part in the event. Sponsors gave visitors information on affordable healthcare and also offered voter registration forms.
