NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- Seed-spitting, toilet seat horseshoes and mud pit tug-of-war. Those were some of the highlights of the inaugural Redneck Games, put on by the N. Ft. Myers Chamber of commerce at the German-American club in Cape Coral.
"We know that sometimes redneck does have a negative connotation. But we see it as just down-home fun, good fun for people of all ages," said Al Giacalone, honorary mayor of North Fort Myers. "You just have to have fun with it."
And about 1,000 people did on Monday. They also participated in "car tire bowling" and a "largest tattoo" contest.
"This is just the way we are. Good times with your buddy, having fun, if you get dirty or muddy, no problem. Spit, mud, crud, no big deal if you get muddy with your buddy," said "Wild Bill" Schwartz.
The Chamber's executive director was not sure how much money was raised, but he said the proceeds will go to promoting businesses in N. Ft. Myers.
