JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after one of its officers struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 95.
Assistant Chief Chris Butler says Lt. Jimmy Ricks was driving his patrol car to work early Monday when he struck a pedestrian crossing the highway.
It's not known how fast Ricks was driving. Authorities did not know the pedestrian's identity.
Butler tells The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/NHSPcV ) that investigators don't know why the pedestrian was crossing the highway. There is an elevated crosswalk near the crash scene.
